An exciting summer ahead for S.T.E.A.M. Academy!

S.T.E.A.M. Academy is designed with Middle and High School campers in mind. Participants will engage, experience, and explore a curriculum centered around S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) activities. This project-based approach leverages modern technology while encouraging creativity, teamwork and communication among our participants. Activities are offered in an inclusive learning environment, led by an experienced and motivated staff.

S.T.E.A.M. Academy offers:

  • Small class size
  • Individualized instruction
  • Group and individual Positive Behavior Support
  • Integrated social skills opportunities with every activity
  • On-site special guests
  • Weekly field trips!

This we’re exploring “Things that Go”! We will go behind the scenes in all we do to find out what makes things work. From humans to machines, we’ll investigate all the different ways we move, and how movement impacts the places we live, work, and play.

We’ll host many special on-site guests like the Ames Public Library Bookmobile, Can Play Sports (formerly Courage League Sports), Iowa State University’s FLEx program, and more! We’ll also hit the road and head to the Science Center of Iowa, Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad, Story Theater Grand Opera House, and ISU’s CyBowl!

As we move through each week, participants will be capturing their best moments, coolest creations, and most interesting discoveries on video to create a S.T.E.A.M. Academy Highlight Reel to share at the end of camp!

Each session of camp is $250 and includes a t-shirt (one per camper, not per session), supplies, and entry to all off site field trips. Due to generous support from our community partners, financial assistance is available. A $150 deposit is required to secure your child’s spot. Once your application is submitted you will receive an email with a secure link to process the deposit payment (or directions for payment via cash/check). Register here: Summer 2022 Registration

Camp is held Monday-Friday, from 8:30am-12:30pm

The Plex Community Center / 5501 George Washington Carver Ave / Ames, IA
